At the DISCOP EAST 2008 international television market, held June 18–20 in Budapest, Vladimir Bortko's film adaðtation of Nikolai Gogol’s Taras Bulba, one of Central Partnership group’s most anticipated releases, interested film businesspeople from practically all Eastern European countries. As the result of various negotiations, Central Partnership expects the film to be released in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the former Yugoslavian countries and a number of other countries. In addition, at DISCOP EAST 2008, Central Partnership sold a number of TV series. The most widely sold of these was The Brothers Karamazov, a miniseries based on the famous Dostoevsky novel, which is planned to premiere in autumn of this year. Central Partnership also closed some successful deals on Investigator Putilin, about a 19th-century criminologist on the St. Petersburg police force and The Yermolovs, a 32-episode family saga about a family heirloom handed down from generation to generation that brings its owners misfortune. “One of the main tasks for the Russian film industry today is promotion of Russian cinema abroad,” said Central Partnership’s VP of international. “Our group of companies uses every available opportunity to do this. Central Partnership sales on film and TV markets are indicative of western distributors’ consistent high level of interest in high-quality Russian productions.” |
