In the ðeriod from March 31 to April 27, Russian distributors released 31 films to CIS screens. Eight of these were in limited release of no more than 30 screens. These films grossed a total of $42.7 million, which is 42.8% less than in March 2008 ($74.6 million) and 34.3% more than in April 2007 ($31.8 million). In April 2008, CIS citizens (not including Ukrainians) bought 6,373,134 admissions, which is 2.2% more than in April 2007 (6,235,294 admissions). The top ten companies in April were: 1. Caro Premier / Caroprokat – $8.88 million. 2. Top Film/Art Film – $4.64 million, 3. BVSPR – $4.18 million, 4 UPI – $3.60 million, 5. 20th Century Fox CIS – $3.59 million, 6. Central Partnership / CP Classic – $3.50 million, 7. Cascade – $2.80 million, 8. Luxor – $2.40 million. 9. West – $1.94 million and 10. Pyramida – $1.92 million. In April, the list of films that made more than $1 million gained 12 more titles, for a total of 66 (there were 47 as of April 29, 2007). The top ten grossing films in April were: 21 (BVSPR) – $4.03 million, Fool’s Gold (Caro Premier) – $3.96 million, Indigo (Caroprokat) – $2.04 million (total gross – $4.65 million), Shutter (20th Century Fox CIS) – $1.79 million, Realny Papa [Real Dad] (Cascade) – $1.71 million, The Bank Job (Top Film) – $1.67 million (total gross – $2.86 million), Scar 3D (Luxor) – $1.60 million, Nobody Knows About Sex 2 [Nikto ne znayet pro seks-2] (Central Partnership) – $1.49 million, Gentlemen Officers [Gospoda ofitsery] (Caroprokat) – $1.45 million and The Forbidden Kingdom (Top Film) – $1.27 million. he leader in limited release in April was the French cinematic omnibus To Each His Cinema [Chacun son cinema] (CP Classic), which grossed $93,870 from eight screens (total gross – $136 047). The crime drama The Bank Job, which grossed $2.86 million from 235 screens, was Top Film’s most lucrative release ever. The horror film Scar 3D, which grossed $1.31 million from 295 screens in the April 10–13 weekend, was Luxor’s first film to top the CIS box office chart. |
