The ðicaresque drama 21 (BVSPR), starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Sðacey and Kate Bosworth, dominated the weekend of Aðril 17–20 by grossing $2,219,687 off 277 screens. Robert Luketic’s film was also the most lucrative film of the week in terms of earnings per screen –$8,013. Immediately following this Hollywood hit, there were two new domestic films. In second place was Sergei Bobrov’s $2 million comedy Real Daddy [Realny Papa] (Cascade) starring Mikhail Porechnikov and Svetlana Khodchenkova, which earned $1,030,182 from 225 screens. The $3 million historical film about the Civil War in Russia Gentlemen Officers [Gospoda Ofitsery] (Caroprokat) was in third. Starring Oleg Fomin (who also directed the film), Alexander Bukharov and Anatoly Bely, the film galloped across 356 screens, earning $886,941. Two more new films made it into the top ten – the Australian-American horror film The Ruins (UPI), with Jonathan Tucker and Jena Malone, was in fifth place with 205 screens that brought $586,515. Next up was the American actioner Street Kings (20th Century Fox CIS), starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, which grossed $555,925 off 183 screens. The sixth new film in the chart was Breath (Cinema Without Frontiers), a drama from the renowned Korean director Kim Ki-Duk, which was in 26th place with $15,590 from three screens. Last week’s leader, Scar 3D (Luxor), starring Angela Bettis descended to fourth place, grossing $850,037 in its third weekend (35% less than in its second weekend), for a total of $2,301,516 in 18 days. Three films passed the $1 million mark this week. In addition to 21 and Real Daddy, the comedy Nobody Knows About Sex 2 [Nikto ne znayet pro seks–2] (Central Partnership) surpassed the coveted milestone, having fallen to seventh place from third. The film grossed $326 876 (a 57% drop) from 400 screens for an 11-day total of $1,351,923. Consequently, this year there are now more than 62 films that made a million. Total CIS box office from of April 17–20 was $8,325,478, which was 15.8% than in the previous weekend. |
