The new leader in CIS box office in the first weekend of Aðril (Aðril 3-6) is the American comedy-adventure Fool’s Gold (Caro Premier) with Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson and Donald Sutherland. The film debuted at the top of the chart and grossed $1,782,580 from 401 screens. Last week’s winner, Roman Prygunov’s youth sci-fi thriller Indigo (Caroprokat) went down a notch, grossing $994,222 from 361 screens (62% less than its first weekend) for a total of $4,119,728 in 11 days. The Bank Job (Top Film), Roger Donaldson’s caper film starring Jason Statham held in third place in its second weekend with $805,960 (a 32% drop) from 235 screens, as opposed to 206 screens last week. Its 11-day total was $2,383,495. The American horror movie Shutter (20th Century Fox CIS), starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor started in fourth place. This remake of a 2004 Thai movie by Misaoki Ichiai put $755,700 into its piggybank from 237 screens. Gregory Hoblit’s detective thriller Untraceable (Top Film), starring Diane Lane and Colin Hanks, debuted in the next place down, earning $587,493 from 168 screens. Two more new films were in the last two spot in the top 10. Forsazh Da Vinci (Cascade), a parody re-dub of Brent Huff’s $10 million Russian-American actioner Treasure Raiders starring Alexander Nevsky and David Carradine, was in ninth place and played for five days on 147 screens and brought in $284,698. In tenth place was George Romero’s fifth “Living Dead” film, Diary of the Dead (Central Partnership/Premium), starring Joshua Close. The film grossed $274,194 from 151 screens. Further down the list in 18th place was the debut of the horror thriller Scar 3D (Luxor), which has thus far been only released in Moscow. This, by the way, is the film’s world premiere. The film grossed $35,658 from six screens. Next week, Scar 3D’s release will be significantly widened. Denis Neimand’s $1.5 million homegrown thriller Open Space (Tsentr Natsionalnogo Filma), starring Andrei Chadov and Yury Kolokolnikov was in 20th (16 screens, $29,102) and 37th went to the first weekend of Giuseppe Tornatore’s award-winning thriller The Other Woman (GP Group) starring Ksenia Rappoport and Michele Placido. The film earned $4,337 from two screens. Apart from Fool’s Gold, the other film that that broke $1 million was the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Doomsday (Pyramida), which grossed $1,517,612 in 11 days. Thus, the “millionaire’s club” of this box office year is up to 56 films. Just like last week, Kenneth Branagh’s Sleuth (Paradise), starring Jude Law and Michael Caine had the highest gross per screen ($6,830). Its four screens earned $72,141 per screen. Total CIS box office from April 3–6 was $7,915,996, which was 34.1% less than the figure for last week. Such a large drop was apparently brought on balmy weather and the lack of major blockbusters capable of pulling more moviegoers in. |
