MOSCOW (Russian Film Business Today) – On FEBRUARY 23, director Pavel Lungin started shooting a film with the working title Ivan the Terrible and Metropolitan Filipp. The Pavel Lungin Studio is producing the film with Pavel Lungin and Olga Vasilyeva as producers. The screenplay written by Alexei Ivanov is focused on two years in the life of the Russian Tsar Ivan IV, the Terrible. The film shows one of the more dramatic episodes in the reign of the Russian monarch, his battle with dissenters and his interaction with the Moscow Metroplitan Filipp. Pyotr Mamonov (Taxi Blues, The Island) and Oleg Yankovsky (Poor, Poor Pavel, The Lover) play the title roles. The film also stars Ramil Iskander, Anastasia Dontsova, Alexander Domogarov, Alexander Ilyin, Ville Haapasalo, Alexei Frandetti, Ivan Okhlobystin, Yuri Kuznetsov, Alexei Makarov et al. Cinematography duties were entrusted to Tom Stern, who has worked on such films as Love and Cigarettes, Letters from Iwo Jima and Million Dollar Baby. The Ivan the Terrible and Metropolitan Filipp shoot is taking place at the Spaso-Yevfimyev Monastery in Suzdal. |
