Irony of Fate: The Sequel breaks the $50 million barrier |

MOSCOW (Russian Film Business Today) – According to a press release from 20th Century Fox CIS, box office receipts for Timur Bekmambetov’s Irony of Fate: The Sequel (produced by Konstantin Ernst, Anatoly Maximov and Bekmambetov) were 1,233,820,000 rubles or $50,351,163 according the accounting day’s Russian Central Bank exchange rate. This includes receipts from theatrical distribution in the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Baltic countries. More than nine million people in these territories went to shows of the film between December 21, 2007 and January 17, 2008. Accordingly, the sequel to Eldar Ryazanov’s TV movie Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath became the new leader in CIS box office. The film was issued on 1030 prints. Industry insiders acknowledge that Irony of Fate: The Sequel drew crowds of the middle-aged and seniors who had not been to the movies in a long time. Bekmambetov’s new hit is still in release. |
