MOSCOW (Russian Film Business Today) – The 8th international Kino-Yalta festival of ðroducers’ cinema will be held from Seðtember 2-6 inYalta. For the third time in a row, the festival will be organized by the Moscow-based comðany Interfest, with the support of the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture and the Producers’ Association of Ukraine.
Kino-Yalta’s general producer and director Renat Davletyarov said the festival’s main goal is to identify and support the best new projects in Russia and Ukraine, as well as retain and fortify the existing ties between filmmakers in the two countries.
Eight feature films will take part in the heretofore undisclosed competition program – four from each participating country. The films will be screened at the Oreanda Hotel. In addition and according to tradition, the screenings of out-of-competition films are open-air and introduced by their creators – directors, actors and producers.
Russian director Pavel Chukhrai heads the festival jury this year. His film Russian Game won the grand prize at Kino-Yalta last year. The other jury members remain undisclosed so far.
According to Kino-Yalta’s regulations, competition winners will be awarded Golden Apple prizes for best director, best actor and best actress. In addition, the Big Golden Apple (the festival’s top award) will be awarded for best film. This year, the laureate of the prize of the organizing committee and festival administration “For Loyalty to the Profession” will be director, actor and screenwriter Stanislav Govorukhin.
During Kino-Yalta 2008, the new film festival Forgotten Cinema will be presented, within which several feature films from the Soviet era that are still relevant today and touch upon burning issues will be shown – Samson Samsonov’s Every Evening at 11[Kazhdy vecher v odinatsat’] (1969), Francisc Munteanu’s Songs of the Sea[Pesni morya] and Not Under the Jurisdiction[Neposuden’] (1970), and directed by Valery Uskov and Vladimir Krasnopolsky. Film historian Sergei Lavrentyev will present each film.
